Meet Urchez

Urchez breaks down his artistry and what's next to come..

We love to discover new christian creatives and are so happy we had a chance to interview this artist. We asked Urchez a few short questions about his artistry and what to expect next. Here's what he had to say..

Every artist has a unique story. Can you tell us a little about yours?

"I’m a visual artist out of Lagos State Nigeria, I’m 21 I’ve been doing art for as long as I can remember, but in recent times I’ve also started getting into the fashion world And also creating stunning custom pieces and styling many music artists and other people. Also into creative direction I work as an A&R and manage JyroGvo as a Christian Afrobeats artist."..

Please tell us about your art. What do you do / make / create? How? Why? What’s the message or inspiration, what do you hope people take away from it?

"I do murals, custom fashion pieces, styling and creative direction. I hope people are inspired by the excellence in my work so that they can also do what God has purposed for them to the best of their ability."..

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?

"You can support my work by following me on Instagram @urchezdrewit and also follow my fashion page @arcanumfits you can also send a message to say hi if you’d like to work with me."..

When and why did you start playing/making music?

"I started Managing JyroGvo in 2023 because I saw how talented he was musically and I felt God wanted to use him for great exploits and so I pushed for us to start creating music again after a long break from music."..

Tell us a little about your faith journey and how you came to give your life to Jesus?

"I’ve always been a Christian but I didn’t really take my faith and walk with God serious until 2019/2020 when I became I full member of my local church “GOD’S CHAMBER” and joined the teens fellowship, I grew close to our teenage leader Mrs Kemi Akiode and I admired the kind of honest life she live and the impact she left on people and so I told myself that I wanted to leave the same impression on people, and also use my gifts to bring glory to the One who gave me the gifts in the first place.."..

What jobs have you done other than being an artist?

"I used to and still work as a mural artist, graffiti artist, art/creative director."..

How do you balance your music with other obligations - significant other, children, job etc? Are you full time music?

"This is a tricky one because I’m involved in different things but I try to take it one project at a time so we have planned for a song to drop in a few months, we lock in and focus on making the song a great one.."..

What advice would you give up and coming independent artists?

"Believe in yourself, remember that no one was there when God gave you the calling so don’t listen to whatever opinions people have against you or your purpose And create with the consciousness that what you make will reach Gods people so make sure that I going to be a blessing to them The focus is being a vessel God can use to reach his people It’s not about YOU."..

What can we expect next from you?

"New music from the artist I manage JyroGvo in 2024, we’ve been working on some new great sounds we can’t wait to share with the world, also planning to drop a new fashion collection."
