We love to discover new christian creatives and are so happy we had a chance to interview this artist. We asked DoubleM Baby a few short questions about his artistry and what to expect next. Here's what he had to say..
Every artist has a unique story. Can you tell us a little about yours?
"I never thought I would be in the position that God has placed me in. In my life I would have things that would get me by day to day but I never had true fulfillment until I found Christ. Through him I have been delivered from drinking, smoking, sex before marriage, porn, depression, hopeless, and not feeling a sense of purpose. Today he has given me purpose, joy, peace and love that I’ve never experienced before. He has sent me out to evangelize to his people that’s he calling back home and he’s allowed me by his grace to make music for his glory!!"..
Please tell us about your art. What do you do / make / create? How? Why? What’s the message or inspiration, what do you hope people take away from it?
"I strive in using my creativity God blessed me with to advance his kingdom and give God the glory that’s due to him. I started off making rap music, but as I advanced in my career, I started to tap into true artistry. My music varies from melodic raps, to singing tracks while still maintaining the integrity of the gospel. What I hope for people to take away is to truly see the love of God, turn their hearts back to him and give their lives to Jesus Christ"..
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
"You could see my work on all streaming platforms. I go by Doublem Baby and my socials on Instagram and TiK Tok are @Doublem.Baby. I am constantly making content and making updates about my music on my social platforms so make sure to follow me.."..
When and why did you start playing/making music?
"I started making music in 2021, but I started off making secular rap music at the time. Rapping about things of the world such as sex, drugs, and money. I’ve always loved listening to music and different melodies so it was something I held onto. When I was younger I used to have imaginary concerts waiting at the bus stop singing with all my heart. Going into music I recognized the talent I had early, but I also had ill motives. With my music I wanted to gain fame for my own selfish reasons such as having any girl I wanted, having a bunch of money, and just people knowing me just for me. Completely taking God out the picture."..
Tell us a little about your faith journey and how you came to give your life to Jesus?
"I grew up in the church and loved it at a young age but fell away from it as I got older. My girlfriend at the time had got me back into the church but after struggling in the relationship, it left me at an all time low, and we ended up calling it quits. After feeling broken, and purposeless, I found that Jesus was my only peace. I started reading scriptures everyday, growing my relationship with God, and my depression was completely stripped away. Ever since, I’ve decided that I was going to give my life completely to Jesus.."..
What jobs have you done other than being an artist?
"Some jobs that I have had in the past are working as a maintenance worker at a pool club, working as a sales associate at Forever 21, being a package handler at UPS, and also being a Uber driver for a bit of time."..
How do you balance your music with other obligations - significant other, children, job etc? Are you full time music?
"I am currently a full time enrolled student at Morgan State, and also very active in different Bible study’s throughout work. I also juggle this with my music and also making sure to make content. The way that I balance everything is by being intentional with my time. If I know I gotta get something done, I discipline myself to do it. Also trusting in God and asking for his strength, guidance and wisdom plays a big factor too."..
What advice would you give up and coming independent artists?
"Submit your heart to the Lord in everything that you do. Remember to remain humble, keep working faithfully at all you do. God will reward you in the little steps that you make as long as it is for his glory. Seek the kingdom of God first, and be consistent in your content posting. It may not seem like you’re making much impact at first, but someone is always watching. And you should rejoice in those you are able to bless from your music."..
Do you plan to stay independent as an artist? What's the next move?
"I plan on staying independent until the Holy Spirit gives me further notice. Right now, God is my label and I’ve seen incredible growth and process with him."...
What can we expect next from you?
"I have an album dropping called DIE 2 ME, LIVE 4 U, containing diverse sounds that illustrate the aspect of living for Jesus Christ, now that I have died to myself in my flesh."..
What inspired your latest album "DIIE 2 ME LIVE 4 U"?
"This is an everyday process as a Christian. We are to die to ourselves everyday. Everything that we desire and want, we are to lay it down and leave it at the cross and allow Christ to live in us. This is me sharing my story of dying to myself, and sharing it with others, encouraging them to do the same. "..
