We love to discover new music and are so happy we stumbled across this gem. We asked Jason Ivy a few short questions about his song "Divided" ft Shuba & Durand Bernarr. Here's what he had to say about it..
What inspired this song?
"The song was inspired by the lack of conversation I see on various topics that divide our society. Whether that is gender, race, politics, class, or so many other things – there's been no real progress on getting to the root of these issues for so long that any discourse is just noise. In the song I say "circumstances change, and we're going different ways down this road divided by what we never say." It's about not knowing what the future holds, but hoping for the best while still holding onto a sense of urgency. Or, for those who don't feel like thinking about the external factors of the world, it could just be a love song about jealousy, heartbreak, and making amends. "How many ways will it go before it goes my way?" Now it's about looking inwards at ourselves and our own relationships. At the end of the day, "it's just what you say is true." The song is what you make of it."..
What do you hope the listener takes away from the song?
"I hope listeners walk away a little more open to conversations that aren't so comfortable. They might find that behind the discomfort is fear that's holding them back from their own humanity."..
What can we expect next from you?
"A lot! This single, "Divided," is the first part of my debut creative project, which includes an 11-song debut album, a feature length documentary, a VR gallery, original illustration and animation, and an international event series aimed at sparking conversations to bridge a divided world."
