Meet Travon-Kare

Travon-Kare breaks down his artistry and what's next to come..

We love to discover new music and are so happy we had a chance to interview this artist. We asked Travon-Kare a few short questions about his artistry and what to expect next. Here's what he had to say..

Every artist has a unique story. Can you tell us a little about yours?

"I was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas & moved to Virginia when i was about 5. Growing up, i’d always see my dad in the studio and I always found myself in there with him. As time went on, I started realizing music is great outlet when life is overwhelming you. Ever since then, I’ve been attached to making songs."..

Please tell us about your art. What do you do / make / create? How? Why? What’s the message or inspiration, what do you hope people take away from it? What should we know about your artwork?

"I’m a recording artist that makes music for people who realize that this life is a long journey and feel alone in process of it all. I want to be a traveling companion for anyone who needs it. I typically don’t rush the process, and often let whatever supposed to be said come to me so it feels natural. The inspiration usually comes at random and it makes me laugh from time to time because it reminds me that inspiration is all around. What I hope people take away from my music is that no matter how it may feel, you’re not by yourself in anything. I try to show that in what share with people. I make sure I acknowledge that I’m not perfect, but every day i take a step towards whatever my idea of perfection is. All in all I just want folks to feel better about themselves."..

How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?

"Currently, i have a few songs between SoundCloud, Spotify, and Apple Music under the name Travon-Kare. I just ask people to tune in and let them know that no matter the opinion, taking out the time means a lot to me. People can also find me on Twitter and Instagram if they search “soundslikecarry”. I post freestyle and verses up there too."..

What's your favorite venue to attend/perform and why?

"Anywhere the sound takes me. I’ve done garage shows, gyms, parks, & theaters that I’ll never forget. It’s about the experience and the energy of the people for real."..

What's your favorite song/project you've been apart of?

"Right now i have an unreleased song called “The Run” I’m working on. It’s going on my next Ep and despite being extra nervous about it, i still love it nonetheless."..

Did anyone influence you to start doing music?

"My main influence to do music comes from my father. In a way he passed it down to me and I’m forever grateful for that. I plan to do the same when that time comes."..

Who does what? Tell me about your team. Do you handle it all? Producer/Engineer/Writing etc.

"Huge shout to the family & the neighborhood. At the moment, the family includes my brothers BlueTheArtist, Alu, Waxx, Justin, and my brother Prince Niquel. Blue is a all around genius man he’s an songwriter and engineer. Shoot if you ask him to do so, he could probably fly. Dude does it all and I always have infinite love for him because he’s helping me grow as an artist. Alu is a producer, graphic designer, and the head honcho of his own clothing line/brand/platform “Lucid”. Him and I been working on this Ep lately and I’m grateful for him because he helped pull me out of a deep creative funk. Waxx and Justin are my videographers & photographers. Individually, Waxx is a graphic designer, recording artist, painter, clothing designer, and anything else creative you can think of. He honestly does it all and constantly tells me to trust my gut with anything I’m making. Justin is videographer & photographer. This is completely unrelated but he’s also an insane hooper too. He keeps a brother motivated when i get down, so it’s big love to those two. Niquel is a brilliant recording artist, graphic designer, A&R, and clothing designer. I feel like bro has a bunch of hats but that’s the deal with us all. Each one of us can do multiple things and because we’re brothers it all just feels like fun. It’s nothing but love for them for real."

What advice would you give up and coming independent artists?

"Art is a realm of expression and interpretation. Express yourself in whatever way you feel is the best for you, but don’t stress over how people will interpret it. At the end of the day, you’re making art for yourself and choosing to share it. So don’t let how others interpret what you’re doing, cause you to question if you’re doing it correctly. There’s isn’t a “correct” way."..

What differentiates you and your art from other artists/musicians?

"For one, I try to be as genuine as possible. I want whoever chooses to follow me to feel like what they see is real. It’s not an act because again, I’m not perfect. I’m just someone trying to be a better person as days pass. Secondly, It goes beyond the music for me. I want to spread as much love as possible to anyone I can reach. I’ve felt alone & seen some dark days, so i want to guide others through theirs the best I can. Lastly, I try to think of the best way to get people to zone in and feel everything happening in a song. Rather than liking a song for the beat or like it for the lyrics, I want people to like it because the sun of it all takes them somewhere."
